Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), also known as Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square), is a large green space containing the famous leaning tower and grand marble-striped Pisa Cathedral. The architectural complex from the piazza, realized from the 11th through 14th centuries, contains, according to the Italian tradition, the three separate buildings of worship: the baptistry - Battistero di San Giovanni (Baptistry of St. John), the cathedral - Duomo di Pisa (Pisa Cathedral), and the bell tower - Torre di Pisa (Tower of Pisa). It also includes a cemetery, Camposanto Monumentale (translated in English "The monumental cemetery"). Each of the three buildings has a specific destination but forms a whole unit of a harmony and overwhelming elegance. There is the gradual passage from the baptistry, the place where people were reborn in faith in the holy place, to the church and the bell tower which sounds accompanied the footsteps of the living and also the last journey of the departed towards their final resting place, the "monumental cemetery". The complex is a landmark of the Roman art.
